SCM connection refused

I have just been tasked helping with SCM. I have no real experience with SCM. We have dozens of HPUX boxes running SCM with no problems, but I have a few that don't seem to work ok. Here is the output of the error log:

mxexec -t push_acscan -n systema.my.com
Running tool push_acscan with task id 2352
Task ID : 2352
Tool Name : push_acscan
Task State : Failed
User Name : root
Start Time : Wednesday, October 15, 2003 9:33:47 AM CDT
End Time : Wednesday, October 15, 2003 9:33:47 AM CDT
Elapsed Time : 51 milliseconds
Node : systema.my.com
Status : Failed
Exit Code : 0
EXCEPTION :
Unable to retrieve a connection from the RMIRegistry to systema.my.com
Connection refused to host: systema.my.com; nested exception is:
java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused

Let me know what further info you need to help me get to the root of the problem.
Thank you,
John

Re: SCM connection refused

Is anyone running SCM or am I it? What I am looking for is some help getting started trouble shooting. I have NO experience with SCM and don't really know where to start looking.

Re: SCM connection refused

Thank you Eric for the trouble shooting guide. I followed the instructions and found nothing the the logs to indicate a problem. The mxagents are running:

ps -ef|grep mx
root 1827 1 0 Jul 7 ? 13:17 /opt/mx/lbin/mxagent
root 1826 1 0 Jul 7 ? 11:11 /opt/mx/lbin/mxrmi

I do know that at least one of the problem HP boxes is in an NIS domain. But there is nothing logged in syslog.log or /var/opt/mx/logs. So I am not sure if NIS is causing me any problems or not.

Since no errors are being logged, I am thinking that maybe it is a netword issue, although I can telnet from the scm manager to the managed node, nslookup works both ways and these probably worked at one time, since they are in scmgr when I run it. I just can't run any tools on these managed nodes.

Re: SCM connection refused

Just to follow up. I was able to get one of the machines (managed node)working by simply stopping and restarting the /sbin/init.d/ServCtlMgr. I have not had time to work on the others.
