SCP High resource utilization
Has anyone had any issues with SCP V4.2 causing very high resource utilization? We had our server drop to its knees when doing a file transfer with SCP. Once the process completed, the server was back to normal.
We are running HPUX 11i V1.

Re: SCP High resource utilization
Possibilities:
- improperly configured DNS
- duplex issue on network
- server can't handle load
What kind of server and what is the configuration (cpu's, memory, network cards) ?
Do you have glance (measureware) installed? If so then do copy again and watch process with glance.
make sure your network is configured to full duplex.
Try "rcp" with the same file to determine if it is scp or possibly just the server is too slow.

Re: SCP High resource utilization
while they are still worth checking, DNS settings and/or link duplex would only (iirc) lead to _low_ resource utilization for an scp transfer.
it would help to know what sort of system is being used, how many and what frequency of CPU.
the looking at the process in glance is a very good idea, I would also suggest profiling the process with prospect (http://www.hp.com/go/prospect IIRC - that or go/caliper will have a pointer to prospect)
If you see lots of user time it suggests the issue resides with encrypt/decrypt performance. If you see lots of system time it may be something else.
