I tried to install the patch PHKL_5406 into system 10.2 series 800. after
unsharing the patch file using sh PHKL_5406,then run swinstall -s
PHKL_5406.depot PHKL_5406, I got the following errors:======= 12/03/99

Make sure the hostname is correct.

Your syntax is slightly wrong. You should read the text file that was unsharred
(PHKL_5406.text). It specifies the proper swinstall syntax for installing the
patch.

I have logged in as root, and used exacxtly the same syntex in the
PHKL_5406.text
" swinstall -s PHKL_5406.depot PHKL_5406".
and still gets the following:
* Session started for user "root@hpux001".
* Beginning Selection

* "hpux001:/tmp/PHKL_5406.depot": This source is a tape device.
* "hpux001:/tmp/PHKL_5406.depot": Cannot open the logfile on this target or
source. Possibly the media is read-only or there is a permission problem.
Check the daemon logfile and "/var/tmp/swagent.log" on this host for more
information.
ERROR: Could not apply the software selection "PHKL_5406" because there are
no product variations that are compatible with the destination host(s). To
select incompatible software, specify the "-x allow_incompatible=true" option
on the command line.
* Software selection failed for hpux001:/tmp/PHKL_5406.depot".
ERROR: No software has been selected.
ERROR: Cannot continue the "swinstall" task.
* Selection had errors.

Hi
Can you just use swinstall
Then in source depot path enter your full path with PH??_????.depot. I think it
might be easy.

Hi Yasser,
Try "swinstall -s (including the depot file
itself e.g.

swinstall -s /tmp/patch.depot

you should then get the interactive gui or tui and see the patch in the list

I have tried to install the patch using the interactive GUI swinstall.
Although I am sure the patch is from HP (HPKJ_5406)and was unshared
successfully into PHKL_5406.depot & PHKL_540.text, I got an error message
"Currently, there are no products on this source which are compatible with
target. therefore, no products are shown.
PS - the machine is HP9000/869 HP-UX 10.20
