Secure Web console

Has anyone played much with the Web console? I have mine working ok, but my question is about how it's supposed to be cabled.

I have an L3000 server. The serial cable for the console plugs into the server on one end, and then splits into 3 connectors on the other end. One is labelled 'console', one is labelled 'remote' and the last one says 'UPS'.

The engineer from HP wired the real console to the 'console' connector. Then connected the Secure Web Console to the 'remote' cable, and left the 'UPS' cable open.

I went through the exercise of assigning a new IP address to the web console and all that. But it only works if I plug it into the 'console' cable. It's like there's no data being transmitted over that 'remote' connector.

Is there something I need to do to activate that connector?

Hi Tim,

You effectively need to plug your serial cable coming out your secure web console to the Console plug, and nothing else: the Remote plug is a Remote Access Modem plug (wiring is a bit different on this RS232).

If the other rs232 connector is wired correctly, then the web console should work. Make sure you have a getty running for the other serial port, then move your 'real' console to the other connector and see if it works (hit return and see if you get a login prompt...if the serial port is not configured correctly you may get no response or garbage). If it does, then the web console should also. If the other port is wired differently (dce vs dte), then neither consoles will work. In any case unless there is a getty running for the port, nothing will happen when you hook up a terminal to the port.

Just noticed someone says the remote connector is different, so you may need a different cable or a null modem adapter if you want to use both at the same time.
