sendmail replay

Is there a limit to the number of servers that can use a relay mailhost in sendmail?

I have one HPUX11.0 server acting as a relay host. I have 40 servers to configure to use this one host. I have successfully configured around 20 of these (a mixture of 11.0 and 11i serves) with out issue but now every other one I configure I get "DSN service unavailable" on the client server and "do not relay" on the relay host.

I have checked all the usally things and everything looks the same for the severs that work and those that don't. I expect its a name resolution issue but I don't know why it has started half way through my list.

We don't use DNS just host file.

It was a naming resolution problem!
