sendmail switch map error

Hi,

I have just setup sendmail 8.9.3 on our box running hpux 11.11. I tested it by sending an email through mailx, and got the following error...

Switch map aliases: unknown member map aliases.dns

I had a poke around and figured it probably had something to do with the nsswitch.conf or the service.switch file, but it all looks ok to me, so here is the output of those files. Maybe you might be able to get something from it....

nsswitch.conf

hosts : dns [NOTFOUND=continue UNAVAIL=continue TRYAGAIN=continue] files
aliases : dns [NOTFOUND=continue UNAVAIL=continue TRYAGAIN=continue] files
services : files
protocols : files
networks : files

service.switch

hosts dns files
aliases files

hmmm... and patch PHNE_26305 has been installed also...

If anyone has any ideas they would be greatly appreciated.

thanks in advance,

Andrew Beal

Re: sendmail switch map error

Do you have a fully qualified name in /etc/mail/sendmail.cf

DSmyserver.domain.com
instead of
DSmyserver

If you make changes to sendmail, make sure you restart it

# /sbin/init.d/sendmail stop
# /sbin/init.d/sendmail start

Re: sendmail switch map error

hi,

Thanks for your reply.

I have checked those details, stoped and restarted sendmail, but the same error still appears???

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Is resov.conf OK?

Re: sendmail switch map error

run nslookup to debug your Address resolution.

Example: nslookup yourserver.com.us

Re: sendmail switch map error

Yeah, they are both ok.

nslookup resolved fine by dns, and the resolv.conf is set to the right domain, and name server.
