Server not responding

HELLO MY NAME IS RAMON CUEVAS, I HAVE ONE SERVER HP 9000 CLASS D210, WE ARE BUY LAST YEAR 1997, FROM NOW NOT PRESENT ANY PROBLEM.
UNTIL NOW, WHAT PROBLEM ?
THIS SERVER TO it is blocked completely not leaving neither access by via network, neither does neither leave to do a shutdown.
we are have off for manually direct to cabled electric.
this reason put risk the integrity the system and server, to be possible error critical.

we are verify and checking the following thing:
*electric volts.......status OK
*tools and diagnostics this server.....status OK

Someone can to help to give possible solutions?

Re: Server not responding

Ramon,

Unfortunately, this type of hangups take place sometimes. D210 is a very old system and I think you can not get any support on it from HP.

if it happens again, instead of disconnecting it from power, connect a console to the serial port on the back and hit ctrl-B. You will see a

CM>

prompt. when you see this, type

RS

and hot return. This will have the same effect without powering down the server hard way. If you power down the system too many times, some of your disks may die due to electric shock.

Right now, nobody can tell you what happened as you reboot the system.

Re: Server not responding

Hi,

When the system hang, please check :

1. the message from front LCD at your HP9000/D210
2. are you be able to telnet from/into the problem server ?
3. are you be able to ping from/into the problem server ?
4. any error in your system by checking the LED status on your system (front & rear) ?

I rather to choose to run TC from CM prompt, since this one will generated the crashdump and hope HP can help to analyze this one for you.

Once the system start-up, check the system :
1. # ioscan -nf
to make sure every device is CLAIMED
2. /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log
/var/adm/syslog/OLDsyslog.log
3. /var/tombstones/ts99
4. /var/opt/resmon/log/event.log

Hope this information can help you.

Cheers,
AW

Re: Server not responding

Hi,

Are you be able to goto BCH (Boot Console Handler) mode ?

BCH mode is the mode when the system asking you to interupt the system within 10 seconds when the system startup.

If be able, check the system info and check the PIM info. See help (HE) for the commands.

Check whether the timestamp on PIM info is updated or not. If yes, possible the hardware on your system have a problem.

Re: Server not responding

Ramon,

Logic of no response from server on the network can be due to many things. Unfortunately, what you told us so far does not have any specific information in it to tell you what the cause is.

What is the last change you did to this system and when ?

You said in year 2000, you added a disk. Did you change anything after that ? Software or hardware ? Install new applications ? Add new users ? Create new printers ?

When you need to ask more questions, REPLY to this instead of creating new topics. It is easier.

Also, HP-UX version 10.10 is way long out of support by HP and you will not be able to get detailed help about it. Consider upgrade.
