Services for Unix problems

Hi there people

I have a very weird problem , that I really hope someone can help me with. We have 2 different UX servers , one running a Production DB and the other a Manufacturing DB. The production server is called JTDS and the Man one is called MFG.(just for ease of use with the problem)

I have a Win2k machine that I've installed SFU on it (latest version) that is in East London. I set it up the same way as my machine in Pretoria. Now , here comes the problem. On the Pretoria machine , I have none. I can mount the exported NFS folders from the PC on UX and access it fine on both JTDS and MFG , but going to the East London pc , I can only access the mounted folders on JTDS. On MFG , it mounts the folder fine , but I get a permission denied error on the folder.

How can I fix this , as I've checked the setups on both machines and cannot get the problem !

Please help ASAP.

Thanks

Re: Services for Unix problems

I'd point to the exports for the beginning - You can run the mount daemon on the exporting in a logging mode where it will supply information about denied requests.

mountd recognizes the following options:

-l log_file Log any errors to the named log file, log_file.
Errors are not logged if the -l option is not
specified.

I'd ask You to look at the manpage and, if possible, give it a try.
yesterday I stood at the edge. Today I'm one step ahead.

Re: Services for Unix problems

Unix

exportfs -av

tail -f /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log

Now try the connect, see if there is any evidence of a connection attempt.

You may need to use tcpdump on the Unix for certainty.

Where I'm going with this is that the network configuration at S.A. may be different than in London. That may prevent correct connection and mounting.

Also, make sure the exports files are the same and folder permissions are correct. The diagnostic steps above will help at least eliminate my theory as an actual cause of the problem.
