We haven't been applying HP software updates for quite some time although we have been receiving them. This was due to the fact that the Oracle DBA was afraid it would affect her environment (this happened previously on a SCO unis server). The auditors now want us to bring the servers uptodate. We have a test & live server so obviously we would apply to the test server & test first. My question is - can I apply the latest disk we received & will that bring the server upto date or do all the previous updates need to be applied or is there a download to do this?.
Thanks,
Tim

Re: Software updates
custom patch bundles - run a patch assessment
Upload system profile
Find candidate patches after running assessment.
Review and install on Test. (Dont forget the backups ;)
cheers!

Re: Software updates
You need to make use of both HP-UX ITRC patch update (itrc.hp.com) and metalink.oracle.com to identify the patch for the combination of HP-UX version and Oracle version.
Thanks,
Srikanth

Re: Software updates
Download and install the new Software Assistant Tool (SWA). Newly released in January 2007, SWA can perform a number of checks including those related to published security issues, installed patches with warnings, and missing patches with critical fixes. Once an analysis has been performed, SWA can download any recommended patches or patch bundles and create a depot ready for installation. The tool obviates more manual, tedious patch analysis and collection.
The manpages that accompany the product are straightforward and show how to configure and use the product.

With this tool, you can download everything you need to bring your server up-to-date. A single patch depot will be created and you will only need to reboot once to apply its contents.
This tool replaces theolder Security Patch Check and Patch Assessment tool and is far easier to use. SWA can deliver the standard patch bundles you need.
Regards!
