Something wrong...
I want to take some experiments on my old server D370 and old disk array.
All I know about disk array is:
model number: C3311A
possibly part number: C2260-00001
serial number: SG07001116
REV-C 07-27-93
No manual.
It seems to me that disk array has SE SCSI interface, but I can't get it working.
I did following:
-turn off d370;
-turn off disk array;
-connect disk array to d370's SE SCSI
port through cable (PN: 5181-7705);
-turn on disk array;
-turn on d370;
-go to PDC;
-search.
As result no devices on SE SCSI behind hw path 8/16/5 at all.
Without disk array connected search says that CDROM and TAPE devices at 8/16/5.0.0 and 8/16/5.1.0 are found.
When I connect this disk array to my PC with adaptec aha-2940 SCSI through the same cable it works fine.
Can anyone explain to me why it does not work on d370?

Re: Something wrong...
What is the SCSi id of disks in Disk array it may be clashing with CDROM/tape's id.

Re: Something wrong...
IDs for filled bays are 3, 4, 5.
It seems to me that disk array is JBOD

Re: Something wrong...
I do not know the type of array, but normal you do not see the disks but only the configured LUN's on the device.
Check with the PC for the id of the diskarray.

Re: Something wrong...
It sounds to me like what you have is an A3311A High Availability Storage System (HASS), sometimes known as a Jamaica box. You're correct - it's just JBOD! I found some documentation here:

Re: Something wrong...
Some tests were made.
1) I disconnect and power off all internal SE SCSI devices (cdrom and tape in my case), then connect array to d370 and power it on, then switch on d370 itself. Go to PDC, search -> no SE SCSI drives;
2) All internal SE SCSI devices are connected, I connect array to d370 and leave it in power off state. Boot d370 in single user state, power on array (I know it is too bad), then type in command prompt
# ioscan -f -C disk
and ALL SE SCSI drives are found (3 disks in array and 2 internals). Note that after powering off, disconnecting array from d370 and rebooting d370 it seams to me that internal SE SCSI is OK (internal cdrom and tape work fine).

Re: Something wrong...
It seams to me that this is not my array...
There is only one SCSI connector, and power switch on box's back side. Nothing else.

Re: Something wrong...
My array looks like PC's mini tower case with one column of bays for disks...
It was produced in 1994 (there is a record on label)
There is only _one_ SCSI connector on the rear side of the box and power switch. Nothing else. SCSI IDs depend on disk's position in array. Topmost has ID 1 and lowest has ID 5.

Re: Something wrong...
this may mean you have to install termination resisters on the last drive on the chain, inside the array.
New scsi drives used to come with resisters installed, so there may be some laying around that you could pick up. There always seemed to be 3, yellow or brown.

Re: Something wrong...
but, if you're sure that the scsi types match between the D class and the array, and there is no id conflict, termination is your last step before you start swaping hardware.

Re: Something wrong...
I surmise that it is so.
My first wish is to know is there a manual for similar equipment.

Re: Something wrong...
PartSurfer has the following manuals listed:
C3310-90060
C3310A Thru C3315A Disk Arrays Information Packet Kit
NO LONGER SUPPLIED
C3310-90952
C3310A Thru C3321A Disk Arrays Configuration and Application Notes
NO LONGER SUPPLIED
But as you can see they no longer sell them.
This must be a *very* old array as the largest disks they sold for them were 2GB.
I'm wondering if this is an external version of the 5 disk bay internal to Ks & Ds?
IIRC you could *only* use 2 of the drive slots on Ds, but all 5 on Ks. You should verify that you aren't conflicting with the internal disk slots SCSI-IDs on that D370 & only populate the top two drive slots on that array to test it.

Jeff

Re: Something wrong...
This box filled with 3 1GB disks.
Which slots you are talking about?
There are 2 internal se scsi in d370 (cdrom and tape), one has id 0 another has id 1. This is shown in output of the command:
# ioscan -fu -H 8/16
Class I H/W Path Driver S/W State H/W Type Description
=====================================================================
ext_bus 3 8/16/0 CentIf CLAIMED INTERFACE Built-in Parallel Inter
face
ext_bus 2 8/16/5 c720 CLAIMED INTERFACE Built-in SCSI
tape 0 8/16/5.0.0 stape CLAIMED DEVICE HP HP35470A
disk 3 8/16/5.1.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE TEAC CD-R55S
ctl 2 8/16/5.7.0 sctl CLAIMED DEVICE Initiator
lan 1 8/16/6 lan2 CLAIMED INTERFACE Built-in LAN
ps2 0 8/16/7 ps2 CLAIMED INTERFACE Built-in Keyboard/Mouse
Disks in array have ids from 3 to 5. why i can't use them, why only 1 and 2?
