split bus on sc10/nclass.

We have two nclass machines in a single enclosure attached to two sc10's. Each of the nclass is single node service guard cluster. we are going to split apart one server and ship it to another location. we are currently running in split bus mode. After the disconnect what would be the status of the other server? In our architecture meeting a person mentioned that since we are in split bus mode we might not have access to half the disk!! what are my options in that case?

Hi,

I believe you have connected your Servers in different SCSI buses as it is in Split Bus Mode. So there won't be any impact to other Server when you remove one of the Server.
If suppose both the Servers are on same SCSI bus and you are using In-line Terminated Cable then also there won't be any problem.
But if you are not using In-line Terminated Cable and both the servers are in same SCSI bus you will end with SCSI Termination errors when you remove one of the server.

The other options for using the disconnected half of the Disks are.
1.If you have an extra SCSI interface on your server you can connect to the disconnected port and you will be able to access the disks.(It doesnot affect your existing Disks which are already accessible)

2. If you don't have any extra SCSI interface on your system you may plan for Full Bus Mode which requires lot of effort as the SCSI Device files of your existing Disk Drives also will change.
