Re: /stand corrupted

Have you got a install/recovery CD at hand ?

That is one of the way, the other is a start from a good make_tape_recovery tape.

What were the action that lead to the corrupted /stand ? This is also important to find out..

Have you got Mirror/UX ? May be the disk is faulty, and you can start from the alternate boot disk.

What is the exact error ?

Re: /stand corrupted

If you have ignite tape (make_tape_recovery) then boot server from this tape. That will be best option for you. Other wise you may have to depend on recovery-cd

Re: /stand corrupted

Boot off the recovery CD and use the option to make your boot disk bootable again. This will recreate /stand so at least you can boot it - then you can recover /stand from backup to get back to your normal kernel config.

Re: /stand corrupted

Have you checked that your disk is available by the system. Boot the system and break the boot process at the 10 seconds warning.
Do a SEA on the prompt. If you not see your boot disk it is possible that your scsi controller is ot of order.

Re: /stand corrupted

Hi --

1) Start by trying to boot in -lm mode. Sometimes you cant get to vmunix or vmunix.prev because the lvlnboot definitions are gone.

interrupt boot process
boot pri isl
answer "Y" to interact with IPL
at ISL> prompt type:
hpux -lm

IF THIS BOOTS, you are likely missing the boot lvol definition.

Fix it like this after booting -lm:
vgchange -a y /dev/vg00
lvlnboot -l /dev/vg00/lvol1
lvlnboot -V /dev/vg00
reboot

2) IF you can't boot -lm, then boot the Install CD and choose recovery shell.

Go to main menu
Go to recover an unbootable system
DO NOT choose "install all files" as this will move some files that you'd really like later.

Instead choose : rebuild the boot lif area only.

Then reboot and go back and try #1 again. If this still fails

Then come back into the recovery menu and choose the option to: download a kernel from recovery media.

After downloading the kernel retry the -lm mode boot listed above in #1.

Re: /stand corrupted

Also note these ITRC document IDS to look at for more details:

How to boot Recovery media on 11.00 ? (OZBEKBRC00000582) or 10.x (OZBEKBRC00000581) depending on what OS you are running.
