What is required to swinstall products to a filesystem other than /opt?

Hi,

Unless the swinstall process is interactive and you are asked to specify the path where you can install the software, you may not be able to change the path where the application is installed. To work around this, you can create another filesystem, mount it and link it to a directory in /opt where you know the application is going to get installed. Say ignite gets installed at /opt/ignite. But you don't have enough space on /opt and you want to install ignite. You can create a filesystem and link it to /opt/ignite, this will allow you to actually install the product on the new filesystem and the path can still be /opt/ignite,


mount /dev/vg_name/new_lv /mount_point

ln -s /mount_point /opt/ignite

Now anything that is installed under /opt/ignite gets installed at /mount_point and not on /opt filesystem.

Hi,

When installing a software, swinstall put files not only in /opt, but in /var, /tmp etc too ( depend on the software). The default target will be root (/).

If you are looking for a different target, other than root (/), then invoke 'swinstall' goto 'Actions'-> 'Change Target'. You can give a new target there ( for eg: /tmp)

Thank you , I decided to go for the "Actions" "Change target" approach.
Software is now in the file system of my choice with the software under a new directory called "opt".
