Synchronizing primary disk

Hi,

On HP-UX 11, both our primary disks are down and PV Status is unavailable.

After inserting a new primary disk, what should be done so that system sees the physical disk for e.g. vgdisplay can detect PV status as available.

Apart from the above question, appreciate if you can point me to a document / web link which has basic information related to generic hardware management UNIX commands.

Re: Synchronizing primary disk

You need to vgcfgrestore to the new disk and then re-activate the VG (vgchange -a y VG).

Re: Synchronizing primary disk

hi niraj,

When you say, both primary disks, do you mean both the mirrored disks. then its time for you to start restoring your data.

If its your root hard disk, the ignite tape which you have created, would be handy.

When you say, generic hardware management, i feel you are reffering to utilities/programs which comes with hpux for hardware monitoring. There are online and offline tools available for the same. More information is available @

Re: Synchronizing primary disk

Hi

If you have replaced the boot disk then you need to boot from your mirror disk to be able to resync. If you cannot boot the system you will need to restore a backup or reinstall the o/s.

Re: Synchronizing primary disk

Hi,

Sorry for asking a unclear question. Herez what I am looking for:

Disk configuration is as follows
a) 2 primary (1 root, other logs)
b) 2 mirrored disks
c) lvol lvol0 on root, and lvol1 on logs

Questions:
1) If one of primary disk is is removed physically and put back in, will the synchronization work automatically ?

2) Both primary disks are removed and put back in, will the synchronization work automatically ?

3) If synchronization does not happen automatically, what should be done to get the primary disks syncronized ?

br,Niraj.

NOTE: After rebooting from mirrored disk, output of vgdisplay is as below:

********************************************
vgdisplay: Warning: couldn't query physical volume "/dev/dsk/c1t2d0":
The specified path does not correspond to physical volume attached to
this volume group
vgdisplay: Warning: couldn't query all of the physical volumes.

Re: Synchronizing primary disk

Also, the disks are not corrupted, they were physically removed for doing some hardware monitoring tests.
