system dumped!!
i have installed a J5600 with hpux 11.00. I was configuring a PCI 1000Base-T lancard ( i put a message in the forum hp-ux - networking - pci 1000Base-T dated yesterday 21/5).
I wasn't able to configure that lancard because i had an error message that the drivers were old. I tried to install patches and i installed XSWGR1100_11.00.depot March 2001 release. After that installation the system dumped. I'm not able to boot it even in single user..i had lot of errors and system reboot. I'm not able to see that errors because the screen is very fast..i tried to stop it with pause/break but it didn't work.
Then i tried boot from CD and i ran HP recover, but it is the first time i use it so i don't know how to do. fsck fails.
Please help is needed.
Thanks Tarek

Re: system dumped!!
May be you got HPMC ! in boot admin service menu , can you locate the PIM information.
if yes , may be you need HP CE help.

Re: system dumped!!
The first step is now to get the system back up running. I would try to boot from vmunix.prev first.
Interrupt boot sequence.
boot pri ipl
ISL> hpux -is (;0)/stand/vmunix.prev
Then fsck and mount the filesystems of vg00 and examine the /var/adm/sw log files for errors.
You can also try examining the errors during boot using CTRL-S (stop scrolling) and CTRL-Q (start scrolling) on your terminal to figure out what the error message at boot time is. This makes it easier to understand the problem you are facing.

Re: system dumped!!
I'm installing the ws again!! No answers were coming in this forum and it was so urgent, so i proceeded in this bad way!! I know that you're way was really more interesting, but i had to do it quickly and i'm not so expert!!
After installation i think i will need your help again. I will install only SAM patch and hardware patch. I hope i can configure it. I need it perfectly working within 4 hours!!
Is it possible that the latest xswgr1100 patch cause all these problems?

Re: system dumped!!
The patch bundles are thoroughly tested and only include patches that are certified and are out in the field for several weeks. Also all dependencies are guaranteed to be resolved. HP spends a lot of work to make the patch bundles/extension software as safe as possible.
However, personally I still prefer to install them only on a new system, as a patch bundle is really a major change. It is good to have a solid patch level from the beginning, but my oldfashioned credo is still "Never change a running system" and therefore I would not put it on a productive box, if there are not really good reasons.
Of course, working in support, I only see the errors popping up at customer sites and do not see the majority of cases where everything works smoothly. My "restrictive" view is therefore not very objective and there are many different opinions in the field how systems should be patched.
I don't know what has caused the problems. From your description it sounds like an early panic, which could be anything, including very simple LVM problems, hardware problems, software problems, patch issues. It really would be required to get more information.
To proceed: After you finished your reinstall and restored the backup, I recommend to load the driver from the application CD, to update the gelan driver with the patch I recommended (PHNE_22930 + dependencies) and to install the SAM patch.
Probably the 1000BT patch PHNE_22930 is not even needed, since the SAM patch lists as problem description (still assuming, not knowing that you got the error in SAM).
"PHCO_21187: 1) The user cannot configure the settings for Gigabit LAN cards."
I read this yesterday and therefore thought that the problem would have been solved after you installed the SAM patch PHCO_21845 (the latest one), like Brian recommended.

Re: system dumped!!
hardware critical patches (that yesterday allowed the system to recognize pci1000 lancard) and PHNE_22930 with it dependecies that are: PHKL_23814 PHNE_22962 PHSS_23185 and SAM patch PHCO_21845. I think this is enough!!!
