tar extract question

I tarred up my omniback directories to an LTO tape as such:
tar -cvf /dev/rmt/16m /etc/opt/omni /opt/omni /var/opt/omni

Now I'm having trouble extracting the files. Is it because I didn't give it a .tar file name on tape?

I try:
tar -xvf /dev/rmt/16m (and get the following message)

tar: cannot open /dev/rmt/16m

Please assist.

Re: tar extract question

Yes. ioscan -funC tape returns the two Ultrium tape drives I have as expected.

mt -t /dev/rmt/16m stat
Drive: HP Ultrium 1-SCSI
Format:
Status: [0]
File: 0

Nevermind. This was a problem between the keyboard and chair.
