tar problem on spanning dds tape

Hi admins,

I did 'tar cvf /dev/rmt/0m ' on a HP server. It spanned to a second tape. Unfortunately, the first tape is corrupted. Can I use the second tape? I tried to do 'tar tvf /dev/rmt/0m' on the second tape and got this message "directory checksum error".

Appreciate your help.

Best Regards,
Bambang

PS: tried to post this msg many times but couldn't get through.

Re: tar problem on spanning dds tape

Bambang,

You might want to try using gnu's tar, it might work:

you have to install the dependencies in this order:

http://hpux.connect.org.uk/hppd/hpux/Development/Libraries/libiconv-1.7/

http://hpux.connect.org.uk/hppd/hpux/Gnu/gettext-0.10.38/

http://hpux.connect.org.uk/hppd/hpux/Gnu/tar-1.13.25/

good luck!
