Can you tar to a remote DDS drive the same way you can with fbackup?

No. Not using tar. Veritas Netbackup will allow you to use a remote tape drive.

You could to a look at gnu tar. It has additional features to work with remote tape drives by using "rmt".

Hi!
Try something like:

/usr/bin/tar cvbf - ./backup_dir | remsh dd of=/dev/rmt/0m obs=32k

Or use NFS to mount backup_dir to the host
with DDS, then use tar conventionally.

Assumes /dev/rmt/0m is the correct tape device on the remote server. You will need to be able remsh to the other host. Add the source hostname to the appropriate user .rhosts file on the remote host to allow it.
