TERM on console with bash

On the HP-UX console the bash command history not working well. The previous command cames up with the "up arrow" button in normal ssh session but not in the console. By pushing the up arrow button the cursor goes up a line on the screen.
With ksh the "ESC and -" works well in the consol also. How/what to setup to have this feature working with bash in the consol? TERM=hp didn't help.

Any idea will be appreciated...

Re: TERM on console with bash

It's quite a complicated termcap type thing. IT might be easier to just do this

ESC followed by k for up, j for down, h for left and l for right.
Never preceed any demonstration with anything more predictive than "watch this"

Hi,

Try
# export TERM=vt100

Re: TERM on console with bash

And it is generally considered a bad idea to have root running any shell but 'sh', at least for the login shell.

There is - of course - no harm in starting bash, ksh, tcsh, csh, ... from the shell prompt to get the interaction you like, but having a non-standard shell as login shell might bite you severe on update/install/remove processes
