A question, four good answers no points assigned.

First page, several rabbits. The Problem solving began on August 22, 2000.

Just food for thought. This is a one point thread for any additional thoughts.

I love points and want 10,000 more but what its about is doing a better job and solving problems.

Re: The first itrc sysadmin post

The first post (of any kind) I can find is here:
http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0x27b6119c3420d411b66300108302854d,00.html

The first page is here (currently):
http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/FamilyHome/1,,117!1!1465,00.html

There was some discussion of this subject back last August when the Forum first passed the 1000 page mark. See this thread:

Re: The first itrc sysadmin post

Pete: if indeed you had the first page in the above link, then the following (from it) is the oldest post currently available:

http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0xc5b5119c3420d411b66300108302854d,00.html

This one is 5 months older than the old post you listed.

So, what happened to all the older stuff? Archived into unsearchable tapes or optical?

BTW, I'm always interested and amused by these tangential threads, but I wholeheartedly agree with you only giving one point for posts. I basically agree with Patrick's etiquette post, and this is in keeping with his 'suggestions'.

Pete may have to go back to having no pejorative nickname, at this rate...

[Off topic: Pete, forgive and forget. You are held in general high regard by all, surely you know this. Nobody gets where you've gotten to, hats OR skills, without taking a few licks, justified or otherwise. Teflon and Titanium for skin, you have to have it to survive in our biz... Don't lose the pride, but lose the sig.]

Re: The first itrc sysadmin post

Hi Folks:

The roots of this Forum are far earlier than the current page-indexing suggests.

The format of the Forum as we see it today dates to circa May 2000:

http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0x0e8fe8644a22d411ade70090279cd0f9,00.html

...although a previous version begins in 1999:

Re: The first itrc sysadmin post

Brian,

You're absolutely right, of course! I grabbed the first post on the last page, instead of the last post on the last page. Duh! If you're interested, the last page takes a bit of searching to find. According to the forums itself, there's 1403 pages. I happen to know that it goes further than that by 50 or 60 pages. So you take the URL and modify the page number portion (1065) in this instance:
http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/FamilyHome/1,,117!1!1065,00.html
Obviously, as more pages get added to the Forum, the number increases - a moving target.

And as far as the sig goes, it's gone. I'm still offended but who cares.

Re: The first itrc sysadmin post

Pete,

what's a sig, don't know the acronym.

Next time you come through O'Hare International, plan a layover. Make it a few hours. Cross the security checkpoint and I'll buy you a beer.

Re: The first itrc sysadmin post

Steven,

A sig, if I interpret Brian's terminlogy correctly, is a signature. As you noted, I had been appending a personal expression after my usual signature. Not quite "Live Free or Die", but it suited my mood of the moment. I'm pretty much over it now but you never know - the sig may be back if circumstances conspire to offend again. There are a lot of people who would laugh out loud at this but I really am senstive, you know.

Anyway, thanks very much for the offer. I'll be sure to take you up on it. There's almost no way to fly anywhere from New England without going through Chicago (unless you're going to DisneyWorld, that is).

Take care,
Pete
