Time synchronisation - without NTP
Just a quick question - what is the best/easiest way to synchronise server times across several servers in HP-UX without using NTP?
Thanks

Re: Time synchronisation - without NTP
without ntp you can use ie. mdate for time synchronisation:

Re: Time synchronisation - without NTP
For me there is no way better than NTP...
We have recently achieved a study about the ntp daemon and it is very convenient to synchronise systems clocks. Of course you need to own a ntp server to provide the hour (the master) but after, it is very easy to start it on the clients.
I'm not sure you fill find my answer very helpfull, but this is my point of view.

If I may ask why do you not want to use ntp?

Re: Time synchronisation - without NTP
NTP is the only HP supported method. If you use something else and it screws up your system clock and any app/db then good luck. Who is so against NTP ?

Re: Time synchronisation - without NTP
Do a search within this forum for NTP. There have been many discussions, cross-references and references to external documentation. Happy searching.

Re: Time synchronisation - without NTP
An alternative is to use the ntpdate command to update time on a box from one (or more -- recommended) sources. This command can be croned periodically. See man ntpdate for details.
