timeout for printer spooler
we installed several remote printer with printer boxes from lexmark. All is working fine, but from time to time, it seems that the printer spooler has an timeout and loses the connection to the remote printer. Is there a way to set the timeout for the printer spooler to a higher value?
Thanks in advance.
Greetings
HM

Re: timeout for printer spooler
Sorry, but there is no such thing! The normal spooler doesn't continously talk to the printer, so if you are losing "connections" the first place to look at is the printer. It's probably cycling down after some period of inactivity.

Re: timeout for printer spooler
Our main problem is, that we have to disable and enable the printer, because without this action, he doesn??t print.

Re: timeout for printer spooler
Have not had an issue at all with them.
Did you install the The Lexmark driver package from http://drivers.lexmark.com/ ( DRIVERS-HPUX1X.PKG.Z )?
Then use lexprt program to add queues.
Use the following settings:
Current Printer Lexmark 2390 plus Printer
Printer Language Raw

Re: timeout for printer spooler
When the timeout occurs are you seeing an error message, like "waiting for queue" or "waiting for {print_name} to come up"?
If so, this is a hostname resolution problem. Make sure that the printer/ip is able to resolve which means update /etc/hosts, DNS, etc.
Also you may have to add an allow statement to /var/adm/inetd.sec in the format of:
printer allow
If you post the actual error message, we can verify the fix.
