unbootable

Hi,
I have HP C3600(HPUX 10.20). Few days ago, because of the electricity problem, the machine has rebooted. It caused corrupted data, so it cannot boot any more.

I tried to recover from recover CD, but it didnt work. hpux ll command gives /stand/vmunix or /vmunix cannot opened or not-executable error.

I can mount the scsi from recover CD; but I don't know how to copy the data to other machine.

I need help on either to recover the system or to copy the files.

Thanks,
Cenk

Re: unbootable

Hi,
First try this:
1)Interrupt the boot process Hit the escape key when the following message appears:

Searching for a system to boot, press and hold the escape key to override

Boot from primary path and interact with isl At the menu, type:

boot pri isl

Answer "y" to:

interact with ISL ?
Enter boot command At the ISL prompt type:

hpux (;0)/stand/vmunix.prev

If not successfull
Then
2) Interrupt the boot process Hit the escape key when the following message appears:

Searching for a system to boot, press and hold the escape key to override

Boot from an alternate disk At the menu, type:

boot PATH

where PATH is the physical path of the disk you want to boot off of

Answer "y" to:

interact with ISL ?(if asked)
