update logs

Hello,

If I am going to update my HPUX OS from 10.20 to the latest HPUX 11.11 OE, what are the "must check" logs that I need to look at to ensure that the update was successful.

Thank You.

Re: update logs

I replied to your other post about installation logs. The answer is still the same.

The only thing I would suggest is that I would do a clean install of 11i rather than an upgrade. You can then restore your customised/site-specific files from backup (/etc/passwd, /etc/group, home dirs, any changes to inetd.conf, services, etc, etc).

If you have any concerns about going to 11i, post them and I'm sure people will help provide some answers to your questions.

Re: update logs

Hi Jimmy

I'd second what Tim has said about upgrading to 11i. You should definitely look at a new install as opposed to the upgrade.

If you search on the forums you'll find alot of threads discussing HP-UX 11i upgrades which should give you plenty of useful info.

Post back if you need further help.

Cheers

Re: update logs

If you do choose to upgrade - avoid the June 2003 CD's - we ran into some problems w/ them. As it is now a 3 disk core o/s set - seems as though some things weren't as "clean" as we would have like them to be. We've done upgrades from 11.0 to 11i, but not 10.20 to 11i. That said - I'd do a clean install to 11i from 10.20 - but 11.0 to 11i seems to be just fine. . . .

Re: update logs

Hi Jimmy,

Doing a cold install as opposed to an update is very good advice.

But I'd also strongly urge you to update the system firmware prior to the install as this is frequently a requisite for OS upgrades & is always recommended. I suspect that's what may have caused that one user's trouble.

You don't state what HW you have, but here's a link to the firmwarde patch search area:

http://www2.itrc.hp.com/service/patch/search.do?pageContextName=firmware:

Pick CPU in step 1 & Browse Patch List in step 2 to see the entire list.
