Hello everyone,
I have a hpux 11.0 server part of an NIS domain, everything looks ok, but when I type in the command "id" for any user except root, it's showing the user id number without the user id name as follows:
" uid=201() gid=201(i2k)"
and this is causing the system to keep asking for a user password when I try to start the application installed on that server.
thanking you in advance for your cooperation and help

Solution
There are 24 patches in 11.00 needed for NIS. See attached.
'pwck' on /etc/passwd and on the output of ypcat-k passwd. Verify the passwd map file for corruption and completenes, i.e., invalid line after root.
Can you 'finger id' and get same problems?
Check /etc/wtmp and /etc/utmp for corruption with:
# last account
Zero out if corrupt:
# cat /dev/null > wtmp
