Is it possible to install a new HPUX machine from an ignite tape of another machine (to be specific, from L2000 to RP4440) which has a different model and specifications? I did tried installing using ignite but on the same machine.

Re: using Ignite tape installation
- a current verion of Ignite and
- latest HWE patches on the L2000
use
make_tape_recovery -I -x inc_entire=vg00
(-I for interactive recovery)
in the Basic installation tag select "additional" and set "cloning to different HW" to true.
Good luck.

Bernhard

SolutionI've seen it done.
The wider the variance in hardware, the more likely you are to encounter problems. The bus is a lot different with an rp4440.
You might wish to go to Ignite Golden Images, which includes a silent OS install, which negates the problems you encounter during or after using an Ignite tape for this project.

Re: using Ignite tape installation
Typically if the chipset is too disparaging then the Ignite boot will panic immediatly complaining about unknown CPU type.
An L2000 to N4000 works great as the chipset is the same.
As mentioned, apply latest Ignite and HWE as well as patches will help.

Re: using Ignite tape installation
For the rp54xx the minimum was HP-UX 11.00, for the rp4440 it is 11.11.
So you need to have at least 11.11 installed (and patched) on the source system.
Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: using Ignite tape installation
what we did is replace the scsi card of the root disk of the rp4440 and use momentarily a scsi card that L2000 was able to recognize. tried it again and it was up. when it was up, we updated the driver and revert the cards. its all working now smoothly.
thanks to all.
