Using SYSLOG with LaserJet - Audit
I have a LaserJet 5100DTN that is managed via a Print Server Appliance and I was requested to audit jobs by sender. Is a SYSLOG Server, like Kiwi, the path to look down as there is a parameter in teh EIO that allows a SYSLOG ip-address. We have a Kiwi server already.
Or I guess a better question is what events are sent to a SYSLOG server by the printer?

Re: Using SYSLOG with LaserJet - Audit
Print job info is not sent to the SYSLOG.
Look in /var/spool/lp/log file. The contents contain the info you are looking for. This file is recreated with each instance of restarting the lpsched process - so every time you issue the command /usr/sbin/lpsched to start the lp spooler you create a new /var/spool/lp/log file.
You can look in the /etc/syslog.conf file for modifications of the SYSLOG functionality.
man syslogd to see the options.
