Can anyone help with this please?
I'm trying to login to an HP/UX 11.0 server as root (from the console), but before I get the password: prompt, I get the message
"/usr/lib/dld.sl: call to mmap() failed -bss /usr/lib/libnsl.1
/user/lib/dld.sl: not enough space"
Any suggestions? For info, the Secure Web Console does not work either, and the system is not responding to network traffic in any form.
Thanks in advance for any help anyone may be able to offer!
Andy

Re: /usr/lib/dld.sl
Hi
It sounds like that the server is very very busy doing somthing, and is so busy that it cannot answer network traffic or console login.
If the server is not answering to any network traffic and you cannot log into the console, then I am afraid that it is big red button time!!!
Basiclly power down (OH Dear) and reboot paying attention to startup screen and noting any errors on the way up.
Once up check all logs and if it does a core dump on the way up check this with :-
what core
strings core
If unsure get HP to investigate it.

Re: /usr/lib/dld.sl
Hi,
I think you have run out of swap space so no new processes can start. You need to kill something to free up some space. Looks like you can't get shell access to the system though.
If you have any client server apps connecting to the server then kill off the clients. Get some users to kill their sessions (even if they have hung there is still a slim chance this may help to free up some swap when the sessions time out on the server)
If all else fails then take two reboots and call me in the morning.
Check out this post for a simple script to monitor swap space.
