Veritas VEA gridnode lock file error

On a recently built HPVM guest, we're getting this error in /etc/rc.log on boot (OM monitoring found the error):

Starting Veritas Enterprise Administrator gridnode agent
Output from "/sbin/rc2.d/S750vxpal.gridnode start":
----------------------------
vxpal: error cannot read lock file (/var/vx/isis/gridnode.lock)

I haven't found much on this on the Web or ITRC. What is this and how can we fix this error? Incidentally, we're using LVM.
