Viewing application software from desktop CD
How do you view the application software media from a desktop CD? I need to ftp some of the software to a server and install. (The media is shipped to my home, where I work; there is no one physically at the Data Center housing the server.)

Re: Viewing application software from desktop CD
The Application CDs are stored as a software depot, not individual packages. There are no tools on the PC that will allow you to pull an individual product. What you must do is to create a software depot on a network that your data center can access. The depot will require an HP-UX computer to implement. The alternative is to install an NFS package on your PC and then export the CD to your HP-UX system. NFS isn't very robust, especially over broadband connections.

Re: Viewing application software from desktop CD
Thanks Bill. Some of the software I can download from software.hp.com. (i.e. B2491BA and B3929CA) Where else can I find them? I still need to get B3701AA and B5013AA.

Re: Viewing application software from desktop CD
Glance and Perfview used to be available for ftp download years ago but as far as I know, they are only on the CD. If you can find an HP-UX box with a CDROM drive, you can mount the CD and use swcopy to create individual depots for Glance and Perfview. These are just a few megs so you can transfer them to a PC and then send them on via ftp to the remote HP-UX box. If you're going to support the server remotely, you might pickup a used HP-UX server from eBay. An E25 or E35 would be great or any of the D-class boxes like the D200 or D300 series. Put it on your local network and you'll have a complete solution.
