VIM syntax highlighting

I already read the thread about not being able to get syntax highlight with Putty. But I'm having issues as well. I'm using two different terminals (cygwin & Secure CRT vt100 emulation) and I can't get more than two colors, aqua for keywords and grey for everything else. I've got the cygwin term defs loaded, and my awk script to fake out color directory listings works fine, and on a box with GCC and ncurses installed from the linux porting kit, it all works fine. Is this a matter of the HP color curses package. Anyone successfully seing more than two colors with HP's cc compiler and color curses package?

I meant to add, this is all non-X based terminals, and I'm running 7.0.76
