Virtual Memory - Glance

Friends,

I have totally 6 GB of RAM and 6 GB of Swap space on my N class machine. This swap is in terms of 3 logical volumes. When I use Glance and look for Memory report, it shows me that Total VM : 3GB. What could be the problem ?

Thanks,

Re: Virtual Memory - Glance

You may want to check what you have the 'maxswapchunks' kernel parameter set to. Remember that each chunk is 2MBs so divide the total amount of swap by 2 to get you needed maxswapchunks. The maximum value for maxswapchunks is 16384. This may help you as your system will be able to see all of your swap. Please assign points if this post is useful to you.

Re: Virtual Memory - Glance

Hi Allen,

The Total VM that you are seeing in the memory report of the glance is NOT the total virtual memory available to the system. It is the total VM currently allocated for all the processes. It's a total of all the private regions of all the processes on the system while active VM is the virtual memory of the processes of the processes that were being processed in the interval since last polling.

Re: Virtual Memory - Glance

Hello Allen,

if you only have as much swap as you have physical RAM, you'll need to set the kernel parameter "swapmem_on = 1",
or you CANNOT use all you RAM...
