VNC: display root window?

The VNC server for UNIX displays a new session. Is there some way to coax it to display and share the root window?

Re: VNC: display root window?

I'm afraid this isn't possible.
The VNC server is only able to start a new -virtual- 'X-Window'.
But you can share that new virtual X-window with several users.

Re: VNC: display root window?

Jim,Bart,

I have a software on my LINUX called X0rfbserver. The package comes from HEXONET and is GPL. The Sourcecode is available.
Once started it shares the X:0 display. Any VNC client can connect to this session.
Unfortunately I am not able to compile/port this software to HP-UX - although I would love to have is (on HP-UP 10.20).

Possibly you know someone to 'make' the binaries ??

Re: VNC: display root window?

Hi Klaus,

I haven't been able to find the source code for this on HEXONET; any chance you could give me a link to the source or email it to me as I know someone who may be able to help compile it. If you're emailing - my address format is firstname.lastname@hp.com

regards,

Darren.
