Vxfs version problem
We had a loan system from HP with 11.11 loaded. Gave the system back already, but now urgently need to access a backed up filesystem from this system on one of our local machines with 11.00 loaded. We get an fs version error when trying to mount the filesystem, because the 11.11 vxfs filesystem version is 4 and 3 on HP-UX 11.0.
Is there a way that I can "downgrade" the vxfs filesystem from version 4 to a version 3 filesystem or how else can I get this file system mounted on 11.0?
Thank you
George

Re: Vxfs version problem
I have read stuff which is very similar situation with your problem.
so I know, unfortunately, downgrading to layer4 to layer3 version in JFS 3.3(default = 11.11(layer4),11.0(layer3) is not support.
the stuff said "once upgrade, you cannot downgrade to an easier layout"
so you would had to care about it before backup data and os from Ignite-ux or other utilities if, I have a good momory.
otherside, you can upgrade your machine's JFS layout version (version3 to version4) on 11.0 and then restore your all of data.
have a good day!!

Re: Vxfs version problem
Thanks for the quick response. I didn't think it would be possible, but still just had to try my luck amongst the more clued-up HP people. :-)
Our only solution now is to install a system with HP-UX 11.11 and then vgcfgrestore the filesystem and then copy the data over to the HP-UX 11.0 system. Just hoped there would be any quicker ways.
Thank you
George

Re: Vxfs version problem
You can also simply install Jfs 3.3 (Free product I think ...) on your 11.00 system. It will be then able to read layout 3 and 4 on the 11.00 system.
Regards.

Re: Vxfs version problem
As, Louis who is HP man said , you don't need to upgrade your O/S to 11.11 Because JFS 3.3 version(layout 4) supports upgrading from 3 to 4 layout in JFS on your 11.0
I agree with Louis's idea.
anyway, good luck!
