A week or so back, we had the main board replaced on one of our L class servers. The result of this swap was our OnlineJFS license no longer being valid.
We got the system up and running after aquiring a temporary trial license which we are still using. I have since received a new codeword for our permenent license.
The question is ... can I use vxlicense -c to input the new codework without effecting the temporary key? I don't want to invalidate the one I'm using now in case the new codeword doesn't take. We're using the DMAPI attribute feature of online JFS on a VSM managed file system and this is in production. I can't afford to take a chance invalidating our current temporary licence key.
Thanks for any thoughts and feedback,
Tom

Re: vxlicense question
1. a codeword is used to load HP licensed software from an applications CD. ie. it unscrambles/unlocks it so you can install it.
2. a license for vxlicense is a separate license which you can manually enter into vxlicense to license OJFS. For example, JFS v3.3 used to work this way.
If you have a codeword all you need to do is reinstall OFS from the apps cd's and it will run vxlicense when it installs to give you a valid license.

Re: vxlicense question
Well, first off you should give your local HP office some grief because you wouldn't be in this position if the CE would have applied the old HostID to the new board, which should have been done as a normal part of the board replacement.
Secondly, by codeword, do you mean an HP codeword or a Veritas key? If it's an HP codeword, the way to apply it is via swinstall on product B3929BA - HP OnLine JFS. Just don't reinstall the binaries. If it's a Veritas key then you'd use the Veritas utility.
HTH,
Jeff

Re: vxlicense question
I think Stefan is on the right track. I received a codeword and CD's and I believe I need a new license key which I thought was the same thing.
I don't want to have to re-install OnlineJFS (downtime, reboot, etc). My version is the same as on the March 2003 CD I received. I just want to input a valid, permenant licence key. Anyone know if HP can provide this to me?
Thanks,
Tom

SolutionYoure right, if you reinstall OJFS you will need a reboot. The version of OJFS on the CD's has a built in license - which wont help you.
You need to obtain a JFS/VXFS license key only - you will have to contact HP for this. There is a specific HP place in the US who handles individual vxlicenses, I cant remember where. Once they give it to you then you can run vxlicense to install and not have to reinstall OJFS.
