Weird kernel message

Hi All,

I've got a question about a specific kernel message that I started to see today on a HP-UX 11.11

The message is :

vmunix: Line 5102 in /ux/core/kern/common/io/pat_psm.c: pat_get_olar_info - rc -1 slot_id -16056443

Have any body seen this message before ? What does it mean ? Is it critical ?

I googled it but could not find much answers.

Regards,
Thierry

Hi Thierry,

Have a look at this from the ITRC Technical Database.

Title:bad customer viewable warning messages in pat_psm.c (pci olrad)

Re: Weird kernel message

Hi Robert-Jan

Thanks for you reply but unfortunately I cna't review the page, it asks for a specific login, which I don't have/know .

"The content identified requires a support agreement, HP CarePack or warranty."

If you could attached it to a post that would be great.

Re: Weird kernel message

Hoi Thierry,

I'm not allowed to post technical articles from the ITRC database to the www.

But I believe there is nothing wrong with posting a conclusion :-)

Check your server firmware for the latest firmware versions.

If you need help, post the output of the model command.

Re: Weird kernel message

Hi Robert-Jan,

I understand you can't provide the info, thats too bad.

I tried to get the firmware of the server but don't really know how to do it.

Here is the output of the model command:
9000/800/L3000-7x

But still, how can the firmware do something for it ? Shouldn't it have occured earlier then as well ?

Thierry

Solution

Re: Weird kernel message

Run

# echo "selclass qualifier cpu;info;wait;il"|cstm

and note down the PDC version.

Latest version for the L3000 (aka rp5470) is 44.12.

patch
PHSS_30632.depot for 11.11

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Weird kernel message

You can also get the PDC firmware level from the

# grep PDC /var/tombstones/ts99

Re: Weird kernel message

Thierry,

The messages in the syslog file indicates that a firmware operation to
get slot info failed. This may be due to the system being installed with
older revisions of the firmware. A support engineer found that with the
latest versions of the firmware, the problem has not been seen. This
problem occurs occasionally and there is no systematic way of
reproducing it.

Whether the latest firmware fixes the problem or not, it is unlikely
that a fix will be delivered in firmware. The message rightfully
indicates that a PCI OL* operation failed. This message will not be changed in 11i. The message will be changed in later releases to be more informative.

Re: Weird kernel message

Hi all,

thanks for all the information, I checked the firmware and saw it is the latest 44.12

Is there anything than can be done to avoid these messages or since I haven't seen them a lot I don't need to worry too much about it ?

Regards,
Thierry
