Re: What does the "i" in 11i stand for?

Supposedly it stands for "internet". It's a marketing gimmick, kind of like Oracle 8i, 9i, 10g, whatever.

Re: What does the "i" in 11i stand for?

Hi Randy,

HP has introduced HP-UX 11i with a new focus on the "Internet-centric" world. So "i" stands for Internet, just a marketing gimmick

Re: What does the "i" in 11i stand for?

Yes - it was Internet:

http://www.faqs.org/faqs/hp/hpux-faq/

"HP-UX 11.11 and later is marketed as "HP-UX 11i." The "i" stands for
"Internet" and is meant to convey that the OS is Internet-ready. Here
are the mappings from 11i versions to HP-UX versions as reported by
uname"

Re: What does the "i" in 11i stand for?

hi randy,

i guess it was inline with all the other products that were coming out with the "i" tag these times - meaning Internet.

oracle 8 becoming oracle 8i
forms 6 becoming forms 6i
ibook
etc

I guess the trend now is "g" for grid

kind regards

Re: What does the "i" in 11i stand for?

hi randy,

i is for internet as others have said.

this was because of the inclusion of all the appache and java apps and was for marketing the 9000's as good webservers

Re: What does the "i" in 11i stand for?

Yeah .. it's internet and hence the continued use of it: 11i 11iv2 11iv3 to signify 11.11, 11.22, 11.23 etc.

It's a relic left over from Carly.
