Which disc enclosure?

An easy one...
if you know the answer
***
One of our clients wants another Disc for his HP Brand racked external disc enclosure[s]

He can't give me part #'s for the disc nor the enc.

His description
A] Enc = "2 rows of 10 disc slots"
B] Disc Module = "cream coloured handle"
***
From A] I suppose it could be any one of these...
2 x FC10
2 x SC10
2 x HVD10
2 x Model 10
1 x Model 20
[I don't think there's any others in a multiple of 10]

I suspect it's a Model 10 or 20
***
Q. Does anyone know for sure?

Re: Which disc enclosure?

Paula makes an excellent point, but I'm not sure how well the Model 20 (which I'm almost positive it is) is labeled. As I recall, they were pretty cryptic. I've got manuals but can find no online versions of same for you. If you want, I could fax you a picture that you could run by them.

Can you email them links to sites or pics?

If so starting point:-

Re: Which disc enclosure?

Paula,

That's perfect, except it only shows the deskside version of the Model 20. From Mike's description ("2 rows of 10 disc slots"), it sounds like the rackmount version. Got any other links?

Another Idea:-

Speak to accounts - it was bought and paid for so there will be a purchase order for what it is.

PO info should be in IT dept also.

Re: Which disc enclosure?

Paula
Judging by his letter he writes English better than me
[AND he can read/write from right to left which puts him in a different league from most of us]

You make me smile !

Anyway...

Thanks for your offers but

The client is in Iraq
I got his request by Airmail
He has fax, phone & email sometimes,
but not right now

All I have to go on is the info I've already given

Re: Which disc enclosure?

Mike,

Not as pretty as Paula's picture, but you can get a diagram of a Rackmount Model 20 via Partsurfer:

http://partsurfer.hp.com/cgi-bin/spi/main?sel_flg=modinfo&model=A3232A

When you visit this page you're presented with lists of the various parts to select from. The last selection box offers a diagram and a pull-down menu to select which diagram.

Re: Which disc enclosure?

Mike

I am not too busy just now - I will go out and identify it for you.

I could do with a break in sunny climes.

Do you think your company would pay? ;^)

When you find the disk model - if they have no IT expertise who, how, what, where and when will it be fitted and configured?

Useful for future reference
I didn't know partsurfer did diagrams

Paula:
WWWWW - were you also once a journalist?

Have you got the correct hat for the cradle of civilization?
[mind you I reckon China & India would argue about that description]

It's the last part of a huge order which has been in the pipeline [ha ha] for some years

A few of us will be going over

I wish you luck. I know I wouldn't want to be headed to Iraq any time in the near future.

Re: Which disc enclosure?

Mike,

I don't have a Model 20 anymore - just got rid of them last year. I do, however, still have a spare 4GB disk from one. If I could still peek inside for you, what did you want to me to look for?

Re: Which disc enclosure?

Is the handle Cream coloured?
[I think that with the other enclosures the disc "handles" are blue

Re: Which disc enclosure?

Mike,

Yeah, it's cream coloured. The SC10's are more gray than cream and have a light blue release handle. The Model 20 has no release latch mechanism - you just yank it straight out/slam it straigh back in.

Anything else?

Re: Which disc enclosure?

As long as they can open the rack, it should be reasonably easy...

Model 20 - 6 fans.
There will be a part # (A3550A or A3232A - Model 20, A3388A or A3231A - Model 10) on the chassis, either on the side by the handle on the back or tucked in by the cabling.

You could also unlock the back, pop it open, and look at the label on the Battery Backup Module - it will say Model 20. You have to worry about them closing it again properly, though, and you only get the 2 mins to check (should take 15 secs.)

The disks in these (at least ours) have a white label on the face.
Blank - 4GB
9 and 18 GB disks actually say "9GB LP" or "18GB LP".

A little knowledge is dangerous - none is absolutely terrifying!!!

Re: Which disc enclosure?

Pete:
No - that clinches it
Cream = Model 10 or 20
Really appreciate your help

Jon:
"9Gb LP" also gels with my info
BTW - Good personal quote

Conclusion:
I propose to supply...
A5132A. Add-on 8.8Gb LP Disc Drive Module
For model 10 or 20
