Workstation Recommendation

Hi all. I haven't worked with HPs or HPUX for about 3 1/2 years. Starting next week I will be admining serveral R class systems, and I would like to get a low end workstation for my desk. In the past I liked to configure my system with 2 internal drives running mirror/UX, a DAT for running ignite-archive, and a nice size graphics display. Could someone recommend a system for me?
TIA.

Re: Workstation Recommendation

Did you want new or used? I assume you want PA-RISC rather than Itanium. I would suggest a used C360 or a new C8000:

Re: Workstation Recommendation

Shalom,

A B1000 or something like that could be had for a very good price on ebay if dollars are important.

The only thing a B1000 can not do that an R can is Serviceguard.

Re: Workstation Recommendation

If you go to Ebay and search on "HP Workstation" you will find several C-series (C3650, C3700, C8000) and J-series (J6750, J6000) that should fit your needs quite nicely.

Re: Workstation Recommendation

Also make sure you install HPUX 11i atleast with good amount Physical memory (2GB min) and shoudl have ample storage space to hold OS images.

Re: Workstation Recommendation

I just recently got a RX2600 with vertical mounting stand - works great as a HP-UX workstation - with optional graphics card.

Re: Workstation Recommendation

thanks for all of the responses. Yes, of course I want a PA-RISC. I'm 99% sure that it will have to be new, I don't see my company letting me buy used from ebay (though it's a good idea also).

Re: Workstation Recommendation

parisc workstations, while good, do not support running 11iV2.

That's why I went for the Itanium.

In a couple of years, we will be moving to Itanium servers as well - so, I get 2 years to "play" with HPUX on Itanium and work out any kinks.

Re: Workstation Recommendation

There are many vendors around who sell used equipment, which they warranty and also guarantee to be eligible for HP support. I doubt I'm supposed to be posting ads for vendors, so if you need suggestions, email me (the address is in my profile).
