Would this be benificial?

I would like to recommend a live chat. I have setup a channel at irc.playersrealm.net. The channel is #ux-solutions. Let's test it out and see if live talk helps enhance the forums with less difficult/everyday questions.

If you have irc, you know how to get there, if you do not, www.mirc.com is the site for the client. Enter the server info above in the connection options, once you have a connection, type /join #ux-solutions.

I would really like moderator comments on this concept.

Regards,

RZ

Re: Would this be benificial?

It is definately not a bad idea, i appreciate that. Infact even merijin's site has a live chat which starts i guess 3 times a day. But the real problem with this is it would benefit only that person in the chat not everyone and also you cant have a history or a database to query for your problems.
The beauty with Forum is you can search old posts and most of the problems get resolved without posting a new one that just searching from the database.
Please dont get offened coz you'r idea too is good and can be considered by ITRC people but i gave my views.

Thanks

Re: Would this be benificial?

No offense at all sir!

On the contrary, we can set up db search functionality on irc as well as forums, as it is unix.... ;) We could have a entity called a bot triggered on key words and many other good things. Not stiffled at all, looking for good input.

Re: Would this be benificial?

While I do not have a problem doing the ITRC Forums from the office, I have a feeling IRC chat would be different. I can't see my employer allowing that. I have a feeling a lot of folks would have that issue as well.

speaking as someone who is sitting behind a corporate firewall that does not allow IRC thru, I can't say that I'm all that interested....

Re: Would this be benificial?

And to expound on that, what if we were to make it a java chat "off" the website, then it is not mirc chat? symantics, I know.

Re: Would this be benificial?

We've already got java chat, if we want it.

Steven little chat room is nice, but again, even though it's java some companies may have problems with their employess being in a "chat room".

Besides, the Forums work well (usually - sorry Dan ;) ) and it has a search engine that allows you to search on past posts.

In my opinion, the chat room could be good for just getting together and getting to know folks better, but I still prefer the Forums for problem solving.

Now, I feel like a dumb a$$. I should have known "you'uns" were miles ahead.

Regretfully,
