Hello,
Has anyone any ideas about the following problem?
H/W: 712/100
OS: 10.20 Custom build
Friday box running fine, no problems.
Friday night IP address change due to network reconfig. Changed IP with /etc/set_parms ip_address.
Monday morning instead of CDE login screen, "welcome to xxxx" have got grey screen with "X" cursor.
Only error messages I can find is "Server open attempt #1 failed for dlnhp10:0, giving up"
Any ideas, its driving me mad.

Solution
hostname resolution problems .... CDE doesn't recognise your IP or hostname that's why X starts only, its defaulting to local:0 as opposed to hostname:0
Try rebooting the box or init 2 , init 3 to restart CDE's dtlogin.
If this fails check hostname resolution ip & hostname in /etc/hosts, nsswitch.conf etc etc

Re: X Server problem
Alex,
Nice one mate.
We resolved this just as you answered. FYI The machine was binding to a newly installed, (over the weekend), ypserver which had outdated version of the yp maps on it. Once we had ypxfr'd the maps over and restarted up it came.
You'll be pleased to know this won't affect your points assignment!!!
