Re: Xerox Printer

Hi Terry,

I am not sure Xerox printer will print or not but have you tried to print with Xerox, if not the you can try once but use SAM for installing printer, if model is not there then you can select dump. Then print something and see what is printing.

Best of Luck

Re: Xerox Printer

There are dozens of printer models made by Xerox (and Lexmark and Canon, etc) but HP-UX only provides direct support for HP printers (no surprise). So you have to ask Xerox several questions:

1. Have you ever heard of HP-UX? Do you support this printer model on HP-UX?

2. What interfaces are available on this printer (HP-UX has no USB support for any printer including HP).

3. If there is an internal LAN card, does the LAN support HP's proprietary JetDirect protocol? If not, does it support Unix lpr/lpd remote printing? Or do you have this printer connected to some other brand of network adaapter (D-Link or Linksys, etc).

If you do not have any contacts for Xerox technical support, you can experiment by adding the printer as a "remote" printer in SAM. Don't select "network" printer as this is only for HP's JetDirect LAN card. But before you setup the printer, you'll need to determine the name of the printer inside the LAN card. Note: this name is not a network name or IP address -- it is part of the remote lpd/lpr protocol and is a generic name, often difficult to discover. Here is a partial list gleaned from various manuals and web pages:

Xerox 4517 'PASSTHRU'

Xerox DC230 Printer 'lp'

Xerox N40 'lp'

Xerox 6200 DN Phaser
Printer is Generic PS 'print_6200'

Xerox 8830 'raw'

Re: Xerox Printer

Hi,

I guess you are talking about configuring Xerox network printer in HP-UNIX.You can configure Xerox network printer in 2 ways

1.Configure this printer as remote printer -- the problem with this would be it cannot print oracle form etc , it can only print text.

2.Use Xerox driver and install on HP-UNIX

http://www.support.xerox.com/go/results.asp?Xlang=en_US&XCntry=USA&prodID=WCPC2128_WCPC2636_WCPC3545&ripId=&Xtype=download

Use Xerox utility either in text or GUI mode and configure your printer .

I Hope this helps
