bandwidth limiting

bandwidth limiting

Hi all

I've installed squid with delay pools feature which limits downloading @ 2KB, but for firewall applications like Kaaza that sucks my bandwidth, I want to limit bandwidth on per user basis thus per user gets 8Kbps.

any idea
thanks in advance

Re: bandwidth limiting

You can limit on a per-user basis using delay-pools.

This is particularly explained here

http://squid-docs.sourceforge.net/latest/html/x1982.html

But the whole document is worth a thourough read

Re: bandwidth limiting

There are other tools for bandwidth limiting, like CBQ. It should be able to control the network traffic at IP-level.
You can look for Bandwidth-Limiting-HOWTO document at http://www.tldp.org.

Re: bandwidth limiting

If you look at the Advanced Routing Howto, you'll also see that the inbuilt queueing and limiting stuff is quite advanced, using the 'tc' tool.

You can set up limits based on protocol, on user, on anything.

It's really quite fun.
One long-haired git at your service...

Re: bandwidth limiting

Hi

thanks for ur ideas

I've already installed squid with delay pools it's fine with FTP & HTTP downloading but the problem is Kazaa & other P2P apps. Therefore I want to restrict bandwidth on per user/IP or MAC @ 8Kbps.

Thanks in advance
