cciss driver support on Red Hat 2.1 AS
Version 2.4.49 of the cciss (Smart Array) driver, which comes with the latest RH 2.1 AS errata kernel 2.4.9-e.34, panics with SA-5304 firmware 2.92 and SA-5i firmware 2.38 (see https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=112844 for details). However, it does work with SA-5304 firmware 3.40.
Presumably HP's cciss driver in the PSP has broader firmware support (which is a polite way of saying "is properly tested with HP controllers"). Problem is, it's two security errata behind in its kernel support (e.27 vs e.34), so I'm faced with the choice between running a flaky driver and running an insecure kernel.
With all the noise HP and Red Hat make about their strategic partnership, why oh why can't the official HP driver ship in the official RH kernel instead of forcing customers to choose between them?

Re: cciss driver support on Red Hat 2.1 AS
This is something that should be taken up with your HP Representititive.
Its a fact of life in the IT world that every combination of driver and kernel doesn't get testted. HP does have a certification matrix that lets you know what versions of Red Hat are completely certified.
I assume you are on that matrix somewhere. If so, its a legitimate complaint and should be made to HP.
This forum can help you get your system working(maybe) it can't effectively notify HP management of a problem, though I've seen it happen.
