Compaq Insight for Red Hat ES

Has anybody tried to get the Proliant Support Pack for Red Hat Enterprise 2.1 version 6.40 to work with the Compaq Insight Manager?

I installed the support pack and got it to show up in Compaq Insight Manager, but it keeps timing out. I increased the network timeout to the maximum of 600 seconds, but it still times out quicker than that. The hpasm service is started and properly configured with the snmpd.conf. It shows up, but times out continuously, while all other servers on the network (100+) are fine (not a networking issue). Is this support pack just not ready for prime time? I am running the latest Red Hat updates and kernel. If anybody knows the solution it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Donuts.... Is there anything thy can't do?

Re: Compaq Insight for Red Hat ES

What version of insight manager are you running?

I've got a RH8 server with PSP 6.40 that shows up fine in CIM 5.50. Not to sound stupid, but are you sure you have the right community string and have the address of your management station in /etc/snmpd/snmpd.conf (not sure if ES has the same paths)

One more thing.... can you get in thru the web agents?

http://ip address:2301 or
https://ip address:2381
the password will be the one you picked during the PSP install.

Re: Compaq Insight for Red Hat ES

Chris,
Please make sure that the cmafdtnpeerd process is running on your server. This can be started by using the "/etc/init.d/hpasm start cmafdtn" command if it is not already running. The hpasm service is just the health driver for the local server. Embedded in the hpasm component is the Foundation Agent (cmafdtn) that actually handles the traffic.

Another thing to verify if the cmafdtnpeerd process is running is that the SNMP configuration is correct. There was a problem with older hpasm components where they would rewrite the read-only SNMP community string as a random string. If you ran the ProLiant Support Pack (PSP), you could try copying the snmpd.conf file from the /var/hp directory back to the /etc directory to see if restoring the previous version corrects the issue.

You could also need to restart the snmp stack after upgrading or installing the ucd-snmp modules in the PSP. You can do this by restarting the snmpd service.

Also, have you verified that you can ping the IM server from the failing server to make sure that its IP stack is working correctly?

Regards,
Michael
