DL380, SuSE Linux, MAC is lost after reboot

I installed a DL380 G3 with two onboard NIC NC7781. After reboot of the server the NIC configured as eth0 and eth1 have no MAC address. The BIOS shows the NIC as not configured after a reboot. After a power down of the server it works fine.
Any idea?

This would suggest this is not written down by BIOS until hard reset (power down/up), the real question are the followin shutdown/reboot registering the nic/MAC correctly ?

if so .... well all is well

This must be due to the kernel driver for the card.

What kernel version are you running?

Sounds like you have a hardware problem.

Those onboard NIC's do fail once in a while.

You might want to try bringing the BIOS back to defaults, booting your system and see if it helps.

Re: DL380, SuSE Linux, MAC is lost after reboot

Hello,

I had the same problem on my DL380R03.
Problem occured after installing service pack from HP.

I solved the problem with updating Firmware of the two NICs. Don├В┬┤t know from where I got this files. Check out the HP - Web Site!

Thank you, with the help of Compaq Support I could solve the problem.
The error and his solution was described in customer advisory, document number CO030310_CW02.
Solution: Update the Boot Code Firmware to the following versions by downloading the NCx7xx Firmware Update And Flash Utility from HP.
