DLT 7000 with 2 drives

Greetings,

I have a simple question, we have a DLT 7000 2/15 which is a tape library with 2 drives and 15 slots. We want it to serve 2 HP9000 N class boxes.

So, we connected one drive to one box and the other drive to the second box. I can use the mc commands to move the tape robotic arm and insert tapes and all that from the one box only.

My question is this:
Can we also manage the tape from the other box, like using the mc commands and move tapes also from the second box just like we're doing from the first one.

The technician who installed the tape library and configured it, said that the device for the robotic arm can only be accessed from one system only, the system that has the primary drive connected ot it. From the second system you can only use the tape device.

It is odd, because when we connected the tape library, there was only 2 scsi connections, each going to one of the systems.

I think it is just because the autochg device driver is not configured into the kernel of the second box, and that is why there is no device linked to the arm from the second system.

Any ideas if this is correct or not.

Thank you.

Hi there.
You can only work with the machine as the techie told you.
We have several libraries ( DLT 4/40, A4846A ( Storagetek 6 drives and 40 tapes ) and so on.
You can operate the robot from one machine only.
What we have done with the DLT 4/40, is, that we installed everything on two machines
( scsi interfaces & software ).
As soon as one machine goes down, we connect the lib to the other and start the backup software daemons.
That is the only way to handle it.
We do backups during night hours using 2 drives for one machine ( connected in a separate backup network to maintain the speed of the backup ).
Just my two cents.

Hello, you have only 2 scsi connections, the first one controls de robot and first drive, the drive is in daisy chain with the robotic control, the second is the scsi for the second drive. You can only scsi control the lib from one machine.
Do it today, don't leave for tomorrow
