Does Linux Redhat need Registration ?

Dear friends,

I friend had give me a Linux RH 3 As,i installed it,and now,i wonder if it needs an
internet registration or enter a code if i haven't an internet connection ?
If there is a registration, and i continue to work without registration, will it block after
60 days or some funcionalities will be deactivated ?

Thank's a lot.
Best regards.

Hi John,

Why use AS and bother registration. I think a fedora distribution (FC3) is more usefull for you. Works find for me!

Re: Does Linux Redhat need Registration ?

No, it doesn't *require* registration to work, but without registration, you can't get updates.

If it is just a home system, I agree with Renarios, you should jsut use one of the free distributions, like FedoraCore 3 (http://fedora.redhat.com/). It has the same basic features and feel as the Enterprise products, but doesn't have the registraion issues, and is free to do updates.

If you are using it to learn AS specifically, well then good luck. ;)

Hi

There will be no loss of functionality if you dont register but you wont be able to keep you system updated using the RHN.

if its for home use, then use either Fedora or Mandrake linux instead of RHAS

You can use RH AS without any issues but you will not able to do update of any packages.

Re: Does Linux Redhat need Registration ?

No registration required. You can even update the software via the yum repository on dag.

You need registration to get updates and software directly from RedHat.

I have attached my yum repository file.

yum update

with this file in /etc/yum.repos.d

Re: Does Linux Redhat need Registration ?

If this is a personal desktop or home system, FC3 is much more suited to this.
However, there is not a whole lot of difference between the two but more enjoyment out of the FC3 system.
