Dovecot problems

Hello,
I installed Dovecot 1.0a from the sources, everything looks ok, but when I:
telnet 127.0.0.1 143

I get this output:
Trying 127.0.0.1...
Connected to localhost.localdomain (127.0.0.1).
Escape character is '^]'.
Fatal: EOF while reading environment from master
Connection closed by foreign host.


Any ideas how to solve this one?

This is alpha code.

I recommend 0.99, source or rpm, your choice.

After visiting the Dovecot website and doing some reading, I now understand why the configuration file I set you failed to work.
