E-PC 40 as a server

I'd like to try these as servers for small scale webapps. I am about to give up as the linux support for the network adapter(Intel PRO/100 VE Desktop Adapter) seems poor. I've tried unsuccesfully both the Intel driver v1.6.39 and Becker's driver at http://www.scyld.com/network/

I'm using the new distro 7.3 from Suse, but Suse admit it is incompatible with SuSE 7.3. ( as an aside HP need to update their site on this).

My question is: has anyone here got another linux distribution working on this model without too much tinkering ?

An update on this, Mandrake 8.1 installed without any network card problems.

Suse says there software should be fine, but for whatever reason I couldn't get the network card running..
